SPEAKER 1
For Christians, belief in God as the creator of the cosmos is central to our worldview. But not everyone agrees that belief in God is reasonable. Some people believe that nature alone is the best explanation for the design and function of the complex systems we observe. Adrian Bijan, an engineering professor at Duke University, offers us one such example.

In his book, The Physics of Life, Bijan outlines his naturalistic worldview that all of the big questions of life can be answered through his theory of evolution. In his interview with National Geographic, Bijan says that Charles Darwin taught him that humans, alongside all the other animals and insects and rocks, are just cogs in the machine of nature.

Our tools, our homes, our technologies, and even our cultures don't, as the Christians think, mirror the intelligence of our Creator, but mirror nature's basic structures. The laws of physics, therefore not God, are the only intelligence guiding our path to a better, stronger, and more efficient world.

Does science make belief in God unreasonable?

Lessons from a shipwrecked sailer.

For Christians, belief in God as the creator of the cosmos is central to our worldview. But not everyone agrees that belief in God is reasonable. Some people believe that nature alone is the best explanation for the design and function of the complex systems we observe. In this video, Dr. Miller shows that ultimately our childlike intuition and our adult reason tell us that machines need a machinist, laws need a lawgiver, and every design needs a designer. The wisdom of the Bible confirms our experience because “the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
