5 Methods of Preaching
If your preaching is boring, it's not God’s fault
In my last post, I explored the question, “what is preaching?” In this post I want to explore the “how” of preaching.
The Bible is the most exciting book ever written, so if you pastor is boring, it’s not God’s fault. The preacher is called to proclaim the life-giving power of the Bible and if we hope to fulfill this calling then our method of preaching cannot simply about relaying content. Today’s preacher cannot afford to talk “to” people, we must learn to talk “with” them. If we hope to put our congregations into a conversation with the Bible, then we must develop good practices for reading and proclaiming the text.
Below are 5 short videos that outline the good, the bad, and the sometimes ugly of 5 common methods of preaching
The Exegetical Method
The Expository Method
The Topical Method
The Narrative Method
The Expository-Narrative Method
You’ll soon find my gavotte approach the Expository-Narrative Method and I hope you’ll embrace these ideas and allow them to transform your preaching.
In my final post in this series I’ll offer a series of videos on how the busy preacher can organize their life to prepare better messages in less time..
